Optically Isolated Unbalanced Audio Line Level Amplifier
From the introduction: The circuit presented here was developed to break so called ground loops which cause unwanted hum and other noise to be injected into the audio line between two audio appliances where on each the signal ground has been connected to Earth. Usually rather expensive specially manufactured audio transformers are employed to prevent such ground loops.
The optically isolating circuit presented in the following uses only readily available components for the same purpose. The actual optical coupling component IL 300 manufactured by Vishay which is available from many components distributors electrically isolates the connection between two audio appliances.

Interesting subject and design. Are you planning a PCB-design? Let me know if I can do something on that.
You mentioned the expensive audio transformers. Do you have any idea of the costs of this design (so including supply and enclosure) compared to the cost of that transformers?
Drawbacks of the solution may be the need for power, the cubic measure and the adjustments. I ever 'solved' the latter by going digital using delta modem. The quality was pour due to the low sample rate and other restrictions but good enough for speech like for telephone.

Hello Messtechniker,
Do you have any data on bandwidth and distortion? Maybe we can do some measurements in our lab?
