Smart Cooking Assistant -- For Effortless Cooking!

The Smart Cooking Assistant sets timers, tracks heat, suggests spices, and prevents burns -- making cooking easier, smarter, and stress-free!

Our vision is to create a Smart Cooking Assistant, an AI-powered kitchen companion that makes cooking easier, smarter, and more intuitive. By combining sensors and AI, it helps with timing your food, seasoning, and preventing overcooking so anyone can cook with confidence.

We're planning to integrate a wide range of sensors and develop a hands-free voice control system as the user interface. No one likes touching and typing on display surfaces with messy hands!

Currently, we are testing optical sensors in the visible and infrared Spectrum to track food conditions such as color changes and heat development in water pots. Additionally, we want to integrate smoke, air quality, and humidity sensors to better understand the cooking environment. These features will allow the Smart Cooking Assistant to detect potential issues -- like overheating oil or excessive smoke -- before they become a problem.

To make steady progress, we are breaking the project into small steps. After each stage, we check what works, what needs improvement, and what is realistic with our skills and hardware. This helps us focus on building a reliable and useful assistant rather than adding too many unfinished features.

Its important to us to make cooking easier for everyone, and not to introduce a buggy gadget.

Hey there!

This is such a cool idea! Finally, an AI that won’t judge questionable cooking skills. But I have to ask—how many sacrifices (aka burnt dishes) will it take to train the AI? Are we talking a few crispy toasts, or full-scale kitchen smoke alarms going off?

Thanks! I’ve already built some conventional hardcoded/wired automation to make my cooking a little less catastrophic—especially when my mind wanders or I try to do too many things at once. This concept is meant to bring all of that together into a flexible, judgment-free helper.

The prototype and test setup is currently installed in my kitchen, and I turn it on whenever we’re cooking. I can confidently say that while we’re collecting a bit of good data samples, we’re definitely gathering a lot of bad samples too.
So rest assured: the amount of neighbor annoyance due to cursing and smoke alarms has not increased because of this project.
