Variable 0-50V 2A Supply (Refresh)

In the Elektor Summer Circuits of 1980, I came across just what I had been looking for; a decent power supply for my electronics work bench. It was to be my first major project (i.e., one with a box around it). After a few weeks of PCB manufacture, MCM switching design, wiring and box fabrication, it was finished. It worked like a dream and then continued to do so for more than forty years. But now, It's time for a refresh for the old design.

provide a lot of supporting background information regarding this project and both should be read. Wouldn't it be nice then if Elektor also would sponsor a view of the original 40-year old article?
I have have purchased the complete back history, but I am almost too lazy to start looking for the original article in that archive, so why not publish it here as well?
